The Engagement Tan

Hi! I’m Sophie from Black + Bronze, a mobile airbrush tanning service. I’ll be your tanning guru throughout the bronzing posts. A tan is like an engagement, before you commit, you have to date around! Since there are so many options, you have to find your best match. By now, we all know that frying your skin for hours in the sun (who even has time?!) or baking in a tanning bed exposes you to damaging UV rays. Airbrush tanning is a safe and healthy alternative, letting you grow old with your honey without too many wrinkles.

Having cold feet about tanning is common – every bride wants glowing, radiant skin, but is terrified of looking like an Oompa Loompa in a wedding dress. Luckily, airbrush tanning has come along way from Mystic Tanning booths. Today’s solutions blend DHA and other natural ingredients to create a natural, sun-kissed effect. The active ingredient, DHA, often derived from plant sources such as sugar beets and sugar cane, reacts with the top layer of skin to darken your skin tone, creating a bronzed – rather than orange – color. Your tan should last 7-10 days, fading with your skin’s normal exfoliation process.

Don’t wait to commit to your first tan days before your wedding day. You always want to have a trial run to make sure the blend is compatible with your skin and you’re ecstatic about the results. Remember: always discuss your expectations with your guru. Specify whether you’d like a subtle glow or a deep Brazilian bronze. Don’t be afraid to be vocal. Happy bronzing!
